FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What does the Minnesota chapter do?
Our chapter of the AMA works hard to cultivate an active marketing community throughout the Twin Cities and the rest of Minnesota. We do this with an ambitious programming schedule, and by providing ample opportunities for marketers to network with others in the community. We also release newsletters and other communications so that our members are up-to-date. For a more detailed look at everything we do—and how you can benefit—please click here.

What do my dues do?
The $50-per-member annual dues provide the seed money for the chapter to develop its programs, meetings, networking events, communication and other community-building benefits.
AMA International uses the bulk of member dues to support its chapters with officer training, publications and a national member directory, as well as with grants and awards to individual chapters.

Who's in charge?
The chapter's day-to-day operation—as well as its vision and long-range goal setting—is managed by its board of directors. In managing the chapter, the board follows the charter and by-laws developed by AMA International.
Board members are elected each year by chapter membership. The commitment for board positions range from one to two years.
Volunteer-staffed committees recommend and implement policy. The standing committees are Programming, Marketing Communications, Membership, Finance and Fall Conference.

I'm thinking I would make a good board member. What would something like that pay?
Participation on the board is a great way for MN AMA members to get involved—just don't quit your day job; all board and other volunteer opportunities are unpaid positions.
Generally, board members are elected in April for terms that start in June. Mid-term vacancies do come up and will be listed in Volunteer Opportunities.
Even if there are not any current board openings, volunteering for a committee is another good way to raise your profile within the organization. Specific openings will be listed in Volunteer Opportunities. Or, use the "Volunteer for a committee" subject line from the menu on the Contact page.

How come I don't show up in your records even though I sent in my application weeks ago?
Since AMA International processes all applications at its headquarters in Chicago, there is sometimes a lag between our and AMA International's records. Typically, it takes less than a month for us to get the reports. Should it take longer, we encourage members to call headquarters directly to confirm that their application has been processed.
